Colder air will follow throughout the night and into Christmas Eve, with winds bringing showers to Scotland, eastern England, west Wales and Cornwall.
The forecast warns that some of these will be wintry but mostly for Scotland and the north east.Those based in the south or midlands can expect dry and sunny weather - and hopes for a white Christmas is dwindling.The chances of snow on Christmas Day are looking low for most places, and the day itself warmer.
