The UK has passed the grim milestone of 1.5m confirmed Covid infections since the beginning of the pandemic. The total number of cases now stands at 1,512,045 since the pandemic tore through the globe in March.
Over the last 24 hours there were a further 18,662 coronavirus cases - the lowest daily increase in over a month. However Sunday's are normally lower than weekdays due to a 'weekend lag'.
The real figure of total infections is thought to be much higher as testing capacity was so low during in initial wave between mid March and mid May.
The good news is that the England lockdown is beginning to impact the infection number with today's infection increase roughly 7,000 lower than last Sunday.
