Britain's coronavirus death toll has soared to almost 14,000 after 870 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours amid fresh signs the curve is flattening.
England reported 740 new deaths and Scotland recorded 80 as First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the lockdown appeared to be working before warning: "We are by no means through this yet." A further 32 deaths were reported in Wales and 18 were recorded in Northern Ireland.
The hospital death toll stood at 13,828 on Thursday afternoon after tallies were released individually by UK nations, up from 12,958 on Wednesday.
