Nominations for the Critics Choice Awards have been announced, with Netflix's Mank leading the way and British stars in the running for several prizes. The shortlist follows those of the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, which revealed their nominations earlier in February.

The Critics Choice Association on Monday revealed the nominations for the 26th annual Critics Choice Awards amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and widespread theater closures that have resulted in a disrupted awards season. David Fincher's Mank , from Netflix, leads this year's nominees with a total of 12 mentions, including for best picture, best director, best original screenplay and best cinematography.

On David Fincher’s Mank, sound designer Ren Klyce was tasked with crafting a monaural soundtrack, similar to those heard in films of the ’30s and ’40s, engaging in a laborious, experimental process, in order to round out the world of one of the year’s most distinctive films.

While a number of films and performers that received fewer than expected Golden Globe Awards nominations earned more love from SAG-AFTRA with the announcement of the 2021 SAG Awards nominations, other Hollywood Foreign Press favorites were less celebrated by the actors union, and a handful of film and TV titles didn't fare well with either group.
