Families of care home residents are demanding visiting rights after a cruel year of separation. Photos of John Ross, 89, taken a year apart, show the dreadful impact the isolation due to Covid can have.

Shadow Minister for Social Care, Liz Kendall, said: “Too many families have suffered the pain and sorrow of not being able to see their loved ones in care homes.” Relatives, charities and MPs from all parties are demanding every care home resident is allowed an “essential family carer” with the same rights as staff, to the vaccine, PPE, and to in-person visits.
