Schools may be forced to stay open as the Government threatens to use legal powers against a council which advised headteachers to close early for Christmas.

Education secretary Gavin Williamson is threatening to use legal powers against Greenwich council after it advised its schools to close tonight.

Islington advised schools to shut from tomorrow, except for key worker and vulnerable kids. Williamson is demanding the councils retract their letters to headteachers, which requested schools switch to remote learning from tonight due to rising coronavirus rates in the borough.
