The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that methanol can be taken into the body via inhalation, ingestion, skin contact, or eye contact.
However, if they're ingested, a number of issues can arise, including headache, dizziness, blurred vision, kidney failure, coma, and death.
In an interview with The New York Times, Brandon Warrick, an assistant professor at the University of New Mexico who is certified in emergency medicine, medical toxicology, and addiction, said this is the biggest number of methanol poisoning cases he has witnessed.
