A study led by the University of Manchester calculated that a typical summer barbecue for four people releases more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than an 80-mile car journey.But don’t panic, grill lovers.

Red meat is responsible for four times the greenhouse gas emissions of chicken and more than 10 times that of vegetables, so switching to plants, fish and white meat will go a long way to keeping our favourite summer feast planet-friendly.Opting for sustainable British charcoal does play a part, though.
