It's warm, sunny weekday lunchtime in Piccadilly Gardens. Normally the square would be packed with its usuaL mix of shoppers, office workers, rough sleepers and street drinkers.
During the coronavirus lockdown, however, it's a different story. Most businesses and shops are closed and although there's still a few people about, it's nowhere near as busy as usual.
But as the Manchester Evening News reported, that doesn't mean its problems have disappeared entirely. Mobile phone footage and photographs taken this week showed people gathering in large groups, fights breaking out and games of football being played on the grass, all in breach of social distancing rules.
