Monday night’s BBC debate?In the upside down world of current Tory politics, perhaps it’s not surprising that the semiotics of the candidates’ respective uniforms have been hijacked and traduced.
That said, we know that appearances count for far more than many would like. It was clear both contenders have been listening to the experts.
Sunak has dispensed with his ties. Truss is wearing colours that suit her (and just happen to be Tory blue) and on Monday, a dress that fitted better.
Not an inspiring outfit. But an improvement.It’s hard not to sympathise with her in this respect. It’s always trickier for a woman in politics to look good than it is for a man.
