Celtic colt teams were allowed into the lower leagues. The former Rangers star has backed the Ibrox club’s proposal to expand the SPFL to a 14-14-18 set-up with the Old Firm B teams and Kelty and Brora joining the bottom tier.
He insists the second strings would develop their own fan bases with supporters keen to follow the progress of youngsters coming through their academies.Critics reckon the colt sides - who would have an age restriction of 21 - would devalue the league and have accused the Old Firm of trying to buy their way into having reserve sides in the professional set-up.
But Durrant reckons it’s a no-brainer in terms of developing young players - and also boosting the coffers of clubs in the bottom division.
