Street parties are being held all across Oldham to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. King Charles III’s coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6 with a service at Westminster Abbey.
For most it will be the first time they have witnessed the coronation of a British monarch – the late Queen Elizabeth II having been crowned in 1953.
Residents keen to mark the national event have lodged more than 130 applications with the council across the bank holiday weekend to hold patriotic street parties, for which nearly 70 roads are being closed. And a bigger knees-up will take place on the Saturday outside the Old Town Hall in the town centre from 10am until 6pm, where the Coronation is being streamed live on the big screen.
