A supermarket which has been the cheapest for these shopping essentials every week for more than a year is almost neck and neck with its main rival.
Every single week since the end of January last year, Lidl has worked out cheapest out of the six main supermarkets for our basket of eight key items.

Lidl's comes to £12.02, with Aldi's £12.04. It comes after some recent price rises at Lidl, including tea bags and chicken breasts, and because we agreed to factor in Aldi's cheaper 25% mince, which is a truer comparison with Lidl's.
