France (The Wine Society, £14.95)This is a lovely, bright pinot noir with a tingly burst of redcurrants overlaying a more savoury, leafy note.Burgundy, France ( Lea & Sandeman, £15.95)A warm, feelgood, expansive 'hello' of a wine made from Bordeaux grape varieties, grown in coastal Tuscany.
There’s a fat chunk of cabernet franc in here which brings lovely aromatics, just a bit of sangiovese, and the blend is based on cabernet sauvignon.
Good with steak, or will make a feast of a sausage and pasta dinner.Tuscany, Italy (Berry Bros & Rudd, £27)Made from roughly half cabernet sauvignon and half merlot, with 2% of petit verdot in the mix, this is a good claret for drinking now.
