A teen murder suspect has been blinded in one eye in a jail stabbing. Jabari Fanty, 18, suffered “gruesome” injuries. The incident sparked a major security alert at category B HMP Doncaster, which is run by private firm Serco.
Fanty is awaiting trial over the shooting of 20-year-old Ramey Salem in Sheffield last year. A source said: “Tensions are running high in the prison.” They added: “We think he was attacked with a shank – a homemade weapon – and the injuries were pretty gruesome.” John Hewitson, the jail’s director, confirmed: “A prisoner was injured and his face and an eye were damaged.
