The place I long to return to is a specific bend of the River Viaur.
This is a little tributary of the Aveyron that runs 100 miles or so through the gorges of south west France between the modest - not to say nondescript - towns of Millau and Laguépie.
It is a 15-minute drive from the tumbledown farmhouse my parents bought in the early 70s before I was born. Back then, our house had a single light socket in the kitchen and no plumbing.
