Krist Novoselic pays tribute to Kurt Cobain on 30th anniversary of his death

Krist Novoselic has paid tribute to Kurt Cobain on the 30th anniversary of his death this week (April 5).Cobain rose to prominence at the end of the ‘80s as the frontman and guitarist of Nirvana – alongside Dave Grohl and Novoselic – and went on to become one of the most iconic figures in rock, particularly the ‘90s grunge scene. He died by suicide on April 5, 1994.Novoselic has paid tribute to his former bandmate in Mojo, where he recalled the opening to their ‘In Utero’ North American tour, which began at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix. He remembered Cobain as the one “carrying the show”.“We were trying to be professional,” Novoselic recalls of the tour.

Ed Sheeran announces intimate London Union Chapel charity gig
Ed Sheeran has announced an intimate one-off concert in London to raise funds for mental health support charity Shout.The ‘=’ singer-songwriter will perform at the 900-capacity Union Chapel in Islington on Tuesday, October 11 as part of the ‘Wellstock x For One Night Only’ event series.Wellstock, an initiative created by Will Young, aims “to build platform to bring mental health awareness to the fore whilst also looking at fundraising and with an overview of acceptance, validation and blowing away the shame that can attach itself to feeling anything other than happy”.Sheeran’s special acoustic show, which will kick off the series, is being put on in support of Shout, the UK’s first and only free, confidential 24/7 text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling to cope.Fans’ only chance to attend the gig is by entering a charity prize draw and making a voluntary donation of £10 to the ‘For One Night Only’ fund that will be donated to Shout.You can do so by texting “ED” to 84903 (texts will be charged at your standard network rate) or visiting the official ‘FONO’ website to enter online or by post. 85 per cent of Britons say music is vital to their mental health
mental health, according to a new survey.New research from the app FREE NOW says that over half of people polled see music as a reason for their closest friendships, with 31 per cent saying they met their partners through a connection with music.85.7 per cent of those polled said that listening to music is an important part of maintaining positive mental health, with 83.9 per cent having been moved to tears by music in their life.38 per cent of people, meanwhile, said they already knew what they wanted their first dance at their wedding to be, even before they met their partner, while nearly half (48.5 per cent) said they had been influenced by music when changing their appearance during their life.Two-thirds also said that their local grassroots music venue was a vital part of the cultural make-up of their hometown.In a statement reflecting on the study, FREE NOW General Manager Mariusz Zabrocki said: “The importance of music was never in doubt but it’s great to see confirmation of just how vital it is to people’s daily lives and of course, especially interesting to FREE NOW to see confirmation of what a big part it plays in travel plans.
