Coldplay have announced the acts that will be supporting them on the UK and European run of their ‘Music For The Spheres’ world tour.The band’s 2022 world stadium tour comes with an emphasis on environmental sustainability, and began with a gig at the Estadio Nacional in the Costa Rican capital San Jose on March 18.H.E.R. and London Grammar were previously announced as special guests on the tour, alternating dates across Europe and the UK.Now, Alli Neumann, Gaumar, Griff, Ibibio Sound Machine, Laura Mvula, Lous And The Yakuza, Mery Spolsky, Nina Nesbitt and Zoe Wees have been added as opening acts.European dates for the tour begin in July and UK dates in August, including six shows at London’s Wembley Stadium.

It comes as part of their yearlong ‘End Extreme Poverty NOW – Our Future Can’t Wait’ campaign.Other names to sign the letter include 5 Seconds Of Summer, Alessia Cara, Billy Porter, Chloe x Halle, Cyndi Lauper, Duran Duran, Femi Kuti, Hugh Jackman, Måneskin and Ricky Martin.In the letter, they – and dozens more – call on billionaires, industry magnates, leaders of wealthy countries (such as those in the G7 and G20), and other people of significant influence “to step up by fully committing the funding necessary to tackle the challenges we face”.The letter continues: “We need to improve opportunities for girls around the world, address the systemic barriers that keep people in poverty, and halt the climate crisis.

The Cure‘s albums are set to go up for auction.The LPs, which will go under the hammer in Manchester on June 7 in aid of the BRIT Trust charity, include the band’s albums ‘Disintegration’, ‘Pornography’, ‘Seventeen Seconds’, ‘Head On The Door’ and ‘Acoustic Hits’.

Coldplay have reacted to a claim that they’re being used as “useful idiots for greenwashing” while they pursue their eco-friendly ‘Music Of The Spheres’ world tour.The band’s plan to minimise their and their fans’ carbon footprint has been welcomed, although criticism has surfaced regarding companies that they’ve partnered with for help.Last week Coldplay announced a partnership with Finnish oil company Neste to cut their touring emissions by half. Neste claims to be the world’s largest producer of sustainable biofuels but the firm’s palm oil suppliers cleared at least 24,710 acres of forest in countries including Indonesia and Malaysia between 2019 and 2020 [via Friends Of The Earth].Carlos Calvo Ambel, a senior director of the Transport and Environment campaign group (T&E) said: “Neste is cynically using Coldplay to greenwash its reputation.“This is a company that is linked to the kind of deforestation that would appal Chris Martin and his fans.

Coldplay have created a special app to accompany their ‘Music Of The Spheres’ world tour to help their fans plan low-carbon and sustainable travel routes to and from their shows.The four-piece kicked off their eco-friendly tour in Costa Rica back in March in support of their ninth studio album, which came out back in October.
