Going up against the toughest competition he’s ever faced in Survivor, Winners at War champ Tony Vlachos had one strategy heading into the star-packed 40th season: stay off everyone else’s radar.

One day after the Survivor: Winners at War finale and reunion special, host Jeff Probst opened up about his own gender bias and a new era of the show.While the show typically ends with a live reunion special in front of a studio audience, Probst, 58, was joined through Zoom video conferencing by just the three finalists, Natalie Anderson, Michele Fitzgerald and winner Tony Vlachos, who took home the record $2 million prize.Probst spoke to Entertainment Tonightvia email, where he opened up about the inherent gender bias he admitted to having during the finale.

When Survivor ends a season of all winners, it better be good. And tonight really was.  Though we can't say we were personally rooting for Tony Vlachos, we will not deny the fact that he played a game worthy of a win, even if it's mainly because every single other person besides Natalie wasn't paying enough attention to realize he needed to be voted out long ago.

Tony was at his frantic best, mending fences and building his dream alliance of lions (plus evil hyena vampire, Nick Wilson). Kim Spradlin, meanwhile, made the inexplicable decision to give up $2 million for a plate of peanut butter.

For weeks, Sophie Clarke, the strategic, quirky queen of Survivor that social media cannot get enough of, had us all convinced that she would win Survivor: Winners at War. She had a hidden Immunity Idol. She had a great social game. She even had a loving edit on the show.
