On Sunday, news broke that Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham had signed up to take part in a breakaway league containing 20 of Europe's biggest clubs.
What followed over the next 48 hours was an almost unprecedented backlash from across the football fraternity, as governing bodies, governments, former players and - most importantly - fans shared their alarm and disdain for the plans.
The owners of the clubs involved were accused of greed, and United and City fans particularly were left furious by the move.
