Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Stonehaven train crash: Charles pays emotional visit to site as probe confirms cause

Accident investigators have confirmed the train involved in the Stonehaven crash that killed three had struck a landslip and derailed.

The Prince of Wales visited the crash site this afternoon to pay tribute to the lives lost in the horror incident in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Three people died and six more were injured on Wednesday when carriages of the 6.38am Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street ScotRail service derailed near Stonehaven amid heavy rain and landslips.

Prince Charles paid a solemn tribute at the site today shortly before the confirmation of the cause of the tragedy. Driver Brett McCullough, 45, conductor Donald Dinnie, 58, and passenger Christopher Stuchbury, 62, sadly died in the tragedy.
