Stockport’s historic Market Place and Underbanks are set to be ‘transformed’ by an £800k traffic scheme including road closures, bollards and new speed limits.

The plans - bankrolled by the government’s Active Travel Fund - aim to provide an ‘improved environment for walking and cycling’ in an increasingly popular part of the town centre.

As well as further restricting vehicle access, the measures also address the road safety issues caused by people driving into the area when this is prohibited.
