On Feb. 22, Korean cafe Spoon by H on Beverly Boulevard announced via Instagram that it would close the next weekend. The post stated, "We could no longer hold out against the growing barrage of fraudulent disputed charges and the countless refunds issued." On top of the universal travails affecting L.A.
restaurants because of COVID-19 restrictions, Spoon by H had been hit by a wave of customers running credit-card scams (who are also defrauding other L.A.
eateries). Spoon by H supporters — among them restaurateur David Chang and writer-producer Phil Rosenthal — quickly launched a GoFundMe, which raised $50,000 in the first day and a half, and now totals more than $70,000, with a goal of $80,000.
