Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, have started their Channel Islands tour on a high note. The Earl and Countess of Wessex have been laughing and enjoying themselves with residents of Jersey, as they celebrate Liberation Day on the Island.

Monday 9 May marks the 77th anniversary of the Islands liberation from German occupation in World War Two and for the first time in two years, residents are able to hold a full scale celebration.

Edward and Sophie are in Jersey representing the Queen at the special Liberation Day Service at Liberation Square, and the Earl read out a message from Her Majesty.

The message from the Queen read: "On the occasion of the Seventy-Seventh Anniversary of your liberation from occupation, I send you my warmest regards. "As you remember the trials and hardship that the people of Jersey endured during the occupation in the Second World War, we are reminded of the courage and sacrifice of those who remained; those who were deported or evacuated from the Island; and those who served in the Armed Forces. "Today, as you come together to give thanks for the Liberation of the Island, I am delighted that The Earl and Countess of Wessex have had the opportunity to travel to Jersey to represent me on this special occasion." "I recall my own visits with fondness and pleasure, and you always extended such a warm welcome.
