Paul Dennett won 59 pc of first-preference votes, beating Conservative councillor Arnie Saunders and four other candidates in the first round.
The Labour mayor - who was first elected in 2016 - took to the stage, teary-eyed after his victory was announced, telling his supporters: "We smashed it."
