THE Punky Brewster sitcom - and protagonist of the same name - captivated telly fans in the Eighties. American actress Soleil Moon Frye took on the role of sassy orphan Punky, who was raised by her foster parent Henry Warnimont.
The NBC series, which began in 1984, documented the pair's blossoming friendship which saw her official adoption in the second season.
Punky, real name Penelope, was accompanied by trusty dog Brandon in her hilarious adventures in Chicago, which spanned four seasons and wrapped in 1988.
She was known for her cheeky smile, huge fringe and pig-tail hairstyle. Yet California-born actress Soleil, who played the character until she was 12 and is now 45, looks completely different to the role that made her famous.
