Lovable rogue Del Boy was never lost for words – even if they weren’t the right ones. But actor Sir David Jason had to think beyond the linguistic limitations of his most famous character when it came to a motto for his crest.
Only Fools and Horses star David, 80, revealed he had considered using the phrases, “Lovely jubbly”, “You know it makes sense” or “This time next year, we’ll be millionaires” on his coat of arms.
But he turned away from the wheeler-dealing world of the Trotters for a phrase to reflect his work ethic and six decades in showbiz.
He said: “I thought I would go more into things that resonate with a grander scale.” Jason eventually picked the Latin phrase Conata Perficere, which means to achieve what one attempts.
