‘Selfless’ former mayoress Gay Wharton to be remembered at memorial service this weekend

A memorial service will be held this weekend for Gay Wharton, the much-loved former Mayoress of Bolton, who died after being struck by a car last November.

Charity volunteer Mrs Wharton was mayoress of the borough of Bolton alongside 2014 mayor Coun Martin Donaghy and a second mayoress Jacqueline Tracey.

The three of them had worked together at Sainsbury’s in Bolton town centre where Mrs Wharton was an in-store trainer. Mrs Wharton was a dedicated patron of Fortalice, a Bolton-based charity providing services for people who are, or have been, affected by domestic abuse and violence.

The memorial service will take place at Bolton Parish Church on Saturday, November 13 at 11am and all are welcome. The service has been delayed as at the time
