A driver who caused the death of the former mayoress of Bolton three years ago has been locked up again after leading police on high-speed chase past the scene of fatal crash.

A memorial service will be held this weekend for Gay Wharton, the much-loved former Mayoress of Bolton, who died after being struck by a car last November.

Bolton. Assad Hussain, 23, of Maplewood Gardens, Halliwell has been been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Monday November 16).Police were called to reports of a collision involving a black Audi and a pedestrian in Chorley New Road, at 12.05pm, on Friday November 13.The pedestrian, 58-year-old Gay Wharton died at the scene.

Queens Park, where some of Gay Wharton's closest friends gathered to remember her. Friends said that The Foundations classic is a song which would have made the former mayoress 'laugh' if she had been there herself and it is is clear that the grandmother has touched so many lives during her 58 years.
