A Scottish primary school is closing until next week after Covid cases thought to be the new Omicron variant were identified among teaching staff.South Lanarkshire Council says it is closing St John's Primary School in Hamilton because of the impact of the variant on school staff numbers.
In a letter sent to parents earlier today, the council's head of senior education Stewart Nicolson said: " NHS Lanarkshire's test and protect team are carrying out contact tracing after cases of Covid-19 which are likely to be the new omicron variant were identified in the school community in St John's Primary School, Hamilton.
