A dad has been banned from driving after being caught drunk at the wheel on the way to pick up his daughter. Andrew Carruthers panicked when the 21-year-old phoned to say she was walking home from a night out alone as her taxi had not turned up.
The 41-year-old got behind the wheel of his Peugeot Horizon mobility vehicle, which he has as one of his other daughters is disabled.
He had downed 10 beers before embarking on the journey, and police officers caught him driving while nearly five-times the drink-drive limit.
Carruthers has now been banned from driving after admitting his guilt over the offence at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court. He pleaded guilty to breaching Section 5(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 by driving with 101 microgrammes
