A giant deep sea creature has been named as the longest animal ever recorded after scientists discovered it in a strange "UFO-like" feeding position off the coast of Western Australia.
Scientists working out of the Schimdt Ocean Institute Research Vessel came across the specimen while remotely driving a vehicle in a deep-sea environment.
The team said the organism was discovered off the coast of Western Australia in a "strange UFO-like feeding position" and is much bigger than it appears.
It is called a siphonophore Apolemia and belongs to a group of creatures related to the jellyfish and corals that look like one specimen.
