Politicians have welcomed the positive impact of safety cameras across the region.The area’s MSPs are pleased with the “effective” cameras which have reduced casualties on our roads.Rutherglen’s MSP Clare Haughey said: “Of the 3580 speeding offences across the whole of South Lanarkshire, 89 per cent were in Rutherglen – overwhelmingly as a result of the new average speed cameras on Mill Street. “Prior to the installation of the cameras, a speed survey showed that 68.3 per cent of vehicles were travelling above the speed limit, and there had been nine recent road traffic collisions resulting in injury.“Over 930 speeding offences were recorded by police with mobile speed cameras in the year before this average speed camera went live –
