John McGinn is a throwback and has been compared to a seventies player, according to Aston Villa boss Dean Smith. Villa's Scottish midfielder notched his second of the season in the 2-1 midweek Premier League loss at home to Manchester City.
The former St Mirren youngster, 26, has been pushed further forward in the absence of injured Jack Grealish. Skipper Grealish is due to have a scan on his shin next week with a view to returning to training.
And McGinn will have another chance to shine on Sunday evening in Grealish's absence at home to West Brom. Villa hope the ace can continue his goal-scoring form after netting three times for Scotland in the international break last month.
