Rio Ferdinand believes Bruno Fernandes will 'thrive' as Manchester United captain and has urged the midfielder to continue being himself.
Fernandes was confirmed as permanent United captain on Thursday afternoon, shortly after United landed in the United States.
The 28-year-old was promoted from vice-captain, following Erik ten Hag's decision to strip Harry Maguire of the armband last week.
With the maligned defender absent for much of last season, Fernandes often took on the role of captain on a temporary basis, making him the obvious choice for successor.
