De Gea, 32, has waved goodbye to Old Trafford after 12 seasons. Onana, 27, is well known to Erik ten Hag from their Ajax days with the Cameroon stopper having played under him for almost three years.
It means Ten Hag is better placed than most to understand what Onana will bring to United.
