Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has recalled thinking it was a “f****** liberty” when Sir Alex Ferguson once gave Cristiano Ronaldo time off after the death of his father.
Ronaldo, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, developed into a world beater during his time at Old Trafford from 2003-09.
Yet two years into his United career the Portuguese star was dealt a devastating personal blow, with his dad Jose passing away at the age of 52.
Speaking on the High Performance Podcast , Ferdinand revealed that legendary boss Ferguson gave Ronaldo a couple of days off after receiving the tragic news.
