Ricky Dene Gervais (born 25 June 1961) is an English stand-up comedian, actor, writer, film producer, director and musician. He is perhaps best known for creating, writing and acting in the British television series The Office (2001–2003). He has won seven BAFTA Awards, five British Comedy Awards, two Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and the Rose d'Or twice (2006 and 2019), as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. Golden Globes have become somthing of a talking point when the prestigious annual ceremony rolls around that's seen him host on and off for five years.

The 59-year-old comedian never failed to leave Hollywood's finest and viewers watching at home gobsmacked with his dark sense of humour and risqué jokes, often brutally targeting certain guests with eye-raising comments - all in jest of course, but rendering even the biggest of stars including Tom Hanks, unimpressed.

But this year will be quite different, as the celebration of TV and film will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Their casting follows the series of brutal rants from The Office star last year and Gervais wanted to remind 2021s guests that they could "relax" now he wasn't.
