Reverend Richard Coles sparked a huge response on social media today after revealing how he was spending his 58th birthday amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The priest, broadcaster and former Strictly contestant woke up and shared with his followers that he wasn't feeling particularly joyous on his special day.

He wrote: "It’s my birthday: fifty-eight, widowed, lonely, locked-down, straitened, and fat. "But NO ONE can take my kipper," he added, alongside a photograph of his hearty breakfast.

Today was Richard's first birthday without his beloved husband David Coles, who died in December at the age of 42. After Richard admitted he was feeling blue, some users on the site - including many of his celebrity friends - began to respond
