Rebel Wilson receives apology from newspaper columnist after he tried to 'out' her

Rebel Wilson has received an apology from an Australian newspaper columnist after 'outing' complaints.The Bridesmaid actress, 42, recently confirmed her relationship with girlfriend Ramona Agruma on Instagram.Following Rebel's post, Sydney Morning Herald journalist Andrew Hornery published a follow-up article in which he said the newspaper had tried to reach out to Rebel about her new relationship.Hornery went on to complain that the Pitch Perfect star had "ignored" a request for comment about her relationship and 'gazumped' the publication by breaking the news to Instagram.Following a swift public backlash and condemnation from Stonewall, Hornery has since apologised.

In a new column for the Sydney Morning Herald titled I made mistakes over Rebel Wilson, and will learn from them, Hornery explained that he had "learnt some new and difficult lessons" and "got things wrong".While denying claims that he was trying to 'out' Rebel, the openly gay columnist said he did "genuinely regret" causing the actress any distress.He wrote that he had "never intended his email to be a threat" and initially hoped Rebel "might be happy to discuss" her new relationship, having already shared pictures of herself and Ramona to Instagram.Hornery added that Rebel's response "would have largely determined what was published" and said he did not receive a reply before Rebel's Instagram post was made.He also said that he had "allowed his disappointment to cast a shadow" over his original column, which has since been taken down.Hornery wrote: "It is not the Herald’s business to 'out' people and that is not what we set out to do."But I understand why my email has been seen as a threat."The framing of it was a mistake."The Herald and I will approach.
