Although the paper’s editor initially defended the outlet’s actions, the offending column has since been removed and its writer has apologized.

However, shortly after she announced her romance, a reporter from The Sydney Morning Herald, Andrew Hornery, published a story claiming she had "gazumped" the scoop from him.
