The drama surrounding the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park continues, with sources claiming that King Charles is urging his brother, Prince Andrew, to vacate the 30-bedroom residence.
In an apparent attempt to nudge Prince Andrew towards downsizing, the King has allegedly stopped footing the bill for the Duke of York's private security detail.
Speculation has been rife that Prince William and Princess Kate might take up residence in the £30million mansion instead. However, some experts believe that the Waleses view the Lodge as a "poisoned chalice".
Royal insider Richard Eden shared his thoughts on the Palace Confidential podcast, stating: "Prince William and his family are not itching to move in.They're elsewhere on the estate and there's big bills that will have to be paid for repairing the Royal Lodge.The last thing William and Katherine want is to be lumbered with a PR disaster of having to spend millions on another house." As per the 75-year lease agreement granted to Prince Andrew in 2003 by the Crown Estate, he is responsible for "repair, renew, uphold, clean and keep in repair and, where necessary, rebuild" the mansion.
