Prince William and Kate Middleton experienced something new on Friday in a year that's already been packed full of royal firsts.
The Royal Ascot is taking place this week — an annual series of races attended by the royal family, as well as around 300,000 other visitors — and William and Kate made their grand appearance on Friday.
While this is not the first time they've been to these races, it is the first time they've gone as the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Traditionally, some members of the royal family take their place in a special procession that takes place at 2 o'clock each afternoon during the week of the races.
