Prince Charles is set to step into his dad Prince Philip's shoes by accompanying the Queen to the State Opening of Parliament.
Whitehall officials have been asked to designate him a role as his mum's official "consort" following Philip's death. This would normally have been the role occupied by the Duke of Edinburgh, who died this month aged 99.
The aim is to reduce the workload of the Queen, who turned 95 earlier in April, the Sun reports. Charles, the heir to the throne, will shoulder a greater burden of royal duties before eventually becoming King.
