Prince Andrew is set to retain his residence at Royal Lodge, in a significant development for the beleaguered royal. The Duke of York has resided in the mansion for two decades but was threatened with eviction by his brother, King Charles. The King reportedly wants Andrew to relocate to a smaller property to reduce the burden on public funds.
Frogmore Cottage has been suggested as an alternative, but the Duke has steadfastly refused to leave the Windsor Estate property, where his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson also resides.Andrew signed a 75-year lease on Royal Lodge in 2004 and pledged to cover its maintenance costs.
Doubts have been raised about his ability to finance the property while his security will be withdrawn at the end of this month on Charles' orders, compelling Andrew to arrange his own. However, a royal expert has proposed that Charles lacks the means to evict Andrew and that the Duke will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
Richard Palmer, posting on social media site X, stated that Charles "wants Andrew to pay his own property maintenance and security costs now he's no longer a working royal".
