According to a new report from The Sunday Times, the “lack of closeness” between Andrew and Charles — stemming from Andrew’s past friendship with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein — “has matured into outright hostility.” This “new low in relations,” as The Times calls it, also has everything to do with Charles reportedly cutting Andrew off financially and attempting to evict him from his home, Royal Lodge — a lavish $38 million estate replete with a 30-room mansion situated on 98 acres within the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Once the home to his grandmother, The Queen Mother, he has lived resplendently on the property since 2003 when he signed a 75-year lease from the Crown Estate, paying a little over $300 weekly rent, with the proviso that he maintains the property, per The Times.Though Charles wanted Andrew out of Royal Lodge, he offered him a new home — a less grand residence that would be more in line with the King’s vision of a “slimmed-down” monarchy.
That residence was Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former UK residence, Frogmore Cottage. Despite Harry and Meghan’s nearly $3 million renovation, Andrew deemed the five-bedroom home too meager for his tastes and refused to move out of Royal Lodge.
