Today, Welsh education minister Kirsty Williams said their main exams will be replaced by coursework and assessment because of the impact of coronavirus.
She said it was "impossible to guarantee a level playing field" and scrapping exams removes pressure from pupils.In Scotland, exams were scrapped for 2020 but the replacement Scottish Qualifications Authority system ended in disarray.Pupils were downgraded in poorer areas and Swinney ultimately had to scrap the results and rely on teachers' initial.
