Premier League 'set date for 2020/21 season to start' to put pressure on current campaign

The Premier League is set to tell clubs that the 2020-21 season must start by the weekend of September 12-13 during a shareholders' meeting on Thursday.

There is growing optimism that the current campaign will be able to be resumed next month, with Phase One of Project Restart having generally been a success thus far.

And if everything goes according to plan the Premier League may be able to be finished by the end of July. There are still fears, however, that further positive coronavirus tests from players or staff could see another delay.
