A road on the border of Wigan and Cheshire is fully shut this morning after a crash involving five vehicles. The smash happened on Winwick Lane, which links Lowton to the M6, at around 6am, police said.
It involved three cars, a van and a HGV. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The road remains shut between the A572 at Lowton and the M6 at junction 22. Police said gritting is being carried out on the carriageway. In a statement, a Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 6am on Wednesday 6 December police were called to a collision on the A579 Winwick Lane on the border between Cheshire and Greater Manchester. "Officers from both forces attended and on arrival they found the collision involved five vehicles, a black Ford panel van, a blue Renault Clio, a HGV, a red Suzuki Swift and a blue ford Fiesta.
