Police crackdown on sex ring at Ukrainian refugee camp after Daily Star expose

Police have launched 24/7 patrols at a Ukraine refugee camp plagued by sex traffickers – after its lax security was exposed by your Daily Star.

The United Nations’ refugee agency the UNHCR swooped on the Korczowa centre on the Polish border after we revealed Brit Scott Hopkins rescued a nurse from the predators.The pair drove 1,800 miles back to the UK after confronting officials at the transit camp over its poor security.

Builder Scott, 54, and medic Lidia, 27, who had turned up with toys for refugee children, found “shady men” in taxis and unmarked vans were free to enter and leave with no-one checking identities.

Aid workers said the camp was a notorious trafficking hot spot and six girls had vanished within 24 hours.Last night Lidia, whose farmer dad is still in Ukraine, thanked the Daily Star for highlighting the threat.She said: “I’m so happy and relieved.“I was thinking of it day and night and hoped that the awareness brought change.“Thank you so much for helping make it possible.’’Scott’s wife Alexis, who has organised two aid relief convoys to Ukraine camps from the couple’s home in Leeds, added: “Amazing.
